Justus scores first all-around
Simply put, Justus was “on” this weekend at the Presidents Day Invitational held at Houston North Gymnasium. He took first place in five of the six events: pommel, vault, floor, parallel bars and rings. He took third place in high-bar. He competed with 16 boys his age in the 7-8 category and scored first place in the all-around with a career high 54.35 points.
Lisa and I are very proud of the improvement he has made in just the last few weeks. He has made tremendous strides in pommel, his most improved event, by scoring an 8.55.
He’s a true competitor. He is very serious with his training, listens carefully to the coach’s instructions, and executes with great intensity. He is thoroughly enjoying this season and is clearly leading his commitment to the sport; Mom and Dad are the followers: He loves being early to practice and meets, he has the dream and talent to take this as far as he wants to go, and he is super level-headed. He knows that God has given him a gift.
While reflecting on the amazing day he had while riding home from the meet, Justus said, “When I’m in the Olympics, I’m gonna look back at this day and say, ‘That was a great day.'”

What can I say? I’m a proud wife and mommy. I’m proud of our boy and thrilled to see his hard work recognized. I’m proud of our girl and thrilled to see her experiencing her on-stage dreams (do you know that she got cast as Wendy in her HITS theatre production of Peter Pan?!!). And, I’m proud of my dear husband. He has worked diligently on this blog in an effort to share our lives with out of town family and friends. I’m proud of the amazing work he’s done in renovating our kitchen. It rivals any professional in the business. And I’m proud of the amazing way he takes care of our family. I’m a blessed gal!! Okay, done gushing. 🙂
Well, I feel a little silly, but I didn’t know that you had a website and blog until you emailed me, Lisa. Anyhoo, I loved the video of Justus’ meet in Houston last weekend. What a gift he has! And he seems to really enjoy what he does. I can’t wait to see your beautiful kitchen and other remodeling endeavors in April when we celebrate Justus and Emily’s birthday together. I will keep this website bookmarked, so I can check it often. Thanks for sharing! I love you guys!
Oh my Gosh- I may only be an honorary Aunt Heather but I was so impressed by Justus, it brought tears to my eyes. I felt like I was watching one of my own! Wow!
Hey Dave- post some before and after pics of the house- I would love to see a little HGTV in action! Love you all Hyde family!
Thanks, Auntie Heather! A page showing the remodel is a great idea.
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing! I really wanted to get to some of Justus’s meets but with the three little ones it is very difficult so I really appreciated being able to see the video!! Justus, way to go!! You are really talented! We are proud of you! Not only proud of the talents that God has given you but proud of the way you use those talents-your dedication and hard work and the way you give God the glory for what he is doing in you!!! We just want to take the time again to say how much we appreciate and love your family! Thank you for the dedication you have to serving the Lord with us and sharing your talents and gifts. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you Rebecca, for being so kind and sweet to Elizabeth. She really looks up to you and I could think of no better role model for her! Please let us know when your production of Peter Pan is, we would love to come!
